Vertical class count principle. The two images show an example profile (vertical slice) of a 3D raster. The orange raster cells denote the cells with a class of interest and the empty cells are all the other classes. The number under each column (vertical column in a 3D raster) is count of the orange cells. The left image shows the basic example, while the right image shows just the counts of cells under an example surface shown in blue. Relative counts for the right image, i.e. counts divided by the total count of cells under the surface, would be 1/3, 2/3, 3/4, 1/4, 0, 0, and 1
