Datacubes need to be partitioned for storage (but for simplicity of service this partitioning should not be visible to users). As the currently only tool rasdaman allows arbitrary partitioning (here called tiling), thereby allowing to adjust to the users’ access patterns. In the extreme case, only some areas of interests are indicated, and the system will automatically find an optimal tiling
